Hello everyone! It’s time again for the next instalment of the Weekly Summer Link-Up!
I just returned home from the TpT conference in Las Vegas and my mind is spinning with ideas! I have decided to space out my blog posts this week – I don’t want to bombard you all with everything I did and learned — so this post is specifically about the best trip of my life. Keep your eye out for the rest of the posts about the TpT conference that will be coming throughout the week!
Back in 2007, my husband and I decided after 6 years of dating and 2 years of being engaged to finally set a date and get married! October 6, 2007 was the official date – a lovely fall day with a little bit of rain – surrounded by 56 of our closest friends and family and our day was perfect! We decided to have a very small wedding so that we would be able to use a lot of our budget towards having a delicious meal and of course, a fabulous honeymoon!
That fabulous honeymoon is the best trip I have ever taken!
I live outside of Montreal, Quebec, Canada where there is a large, strong, and proud Greek community. I have several Greek friends and I have always had a love for Greek culture, food, customs, and the language. So when it came time to plan a honeymoon, the only place that I really wanted to go to was Greece. My husband was totally on board with the idea and we planned our first trip away together EVER on a cruise of the Greek Isles.
Greece was an absolute dream! We spent 13 days exploring Athens, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini, and even Kusadasi, Turkey. We loved walking around the little villages and interacting with the local people. We spent our days walking, site seeing on our own, and eating! Oh my goodness! The food was amazing – so much so that I came back with an extra 12 pounds on my body! 12 pounds in 13 days… don’t tell my doctor!
Speaking of eating excellent food, my husband and I found this little gem of a restaurant in the circular maze of a village Mykonos. This meal will always remain one of the best meals of my life as it was our first meal alone as a married couple and we basically had the little outdoor restaurant to ourselves. The famous village pelican came to keep us company throughout our meal and the food was out of this world! The tzatziki was the best I have ever tasted!
The best part of our trip was a 3 night stay on a resort in Crete. Here, we did what every resort bum does… lay in the sun all day and head out for some fun at night. My husband and I were on such a high from the wedding – but so exhausted from the actual wedding itself, the 10 hour plane ride, and the 5 hour time difference. Creta Maris was just one of the many highlights of our trip!
This trip to Greece holds so many wonderful memories for me. It was the first time I actually heard my new husband call me his “wife” – all newly married couples understand how that moment feels!!! It was the first trip my husband and I got to take together without our children. It was an amazing continuation of our wedding celebration. The trip was simply perfection in all form!
Now it is your turn to tell me all about your favourite trip! Click on the blue link-up button on the left hand side to get yourself in on the party!

I loved reading this post! I’m Greek and it’s always nice to hear about other people’s experiences in the motherland 🙂 I’m glad you got to go, eat, sun bathe, and hear “wife” 🙂 My husband and I just celebrated 5 years and I still like hearing it! ps, I totally don’t consider those 12 lbs weight gain, it was a souvenir and a present to your taste buds 🙂

LOL! I’m taking your advice… those 12 pounds were a souvenir and a present to my taste buds… and hips… and tummy…! Oh well, it wasn’t long after I returned that I became pregnant with my son – so those 12 pounds were really nothing! lol!
Congratulations on your wedding anniversary!

What a great trip. Brad and I joke that Mykonos was where we did our Gelato tour. It was really hot, and the only places that had free WiFi were the restaurants, so we sat in one, had gelato, and used the Wifi. after an hour or so, we went off to the next. I think we had 3 servings of Gelato that day. I will definitely join the linkup, but later in the week. My head is still spinning from Vegas. We didn’t get home until almost midnight last night. I totaly enjoyed meeting you Monica!

Hey Sandra,
If you are talking about the gelato shop down by the water then I know it well! It was my first taste of Bailey’s gelato – and it started my love affair with it!
Ditto on the head spinning from Vegas. I wasn’t too sure that I would have this post up and running on time. I spent 2 nights in airports, had a flight cancelled, and had a hard time getting my car out of the airport parking so after all that I am a touch knackered! But, those cupcakes survived the trip and were SUPER delicious. I even had one for breakfast this morning! lol!
It was a pleasure meeting both you and your husband this week! Take care!

That looks absolutely wonderful! My brother in law has a little flat in Crete so I think we need to make a plan to get there (and head to that little Gelato shop).
I also got married in 2007, it seems like it was the year to get married (well according to us, that is).
I some how missed the previous Summer Link-ups, but am hoping to be joining you for the rest to come.

What beautiful wedding photos! And oh my goodness, your honeymoon looked like a dream trip. It’s so wonderful that you and your hubby were able to spend 13 days together as just the two of you. What a fantastic start to your marriage. Your pictures of Crete are telling me that I HAVE to go back and explore Greece more! Ha-Ha Thanks for the link up!

Monica,
That sounds like an amazing vacation. The Greek Islands are definitely on my to-do bucket list. I’m impressed you could have a wedding with 56 people! I am struggling with 125 and someone said yesterday, “Oh wow, youre having a small wedding.” LOL, I almost fell over!
Thanks for hosting this!
