I am so. very proud to introduce you all to my little labour of love! I can hardly believe that I am a published author!
When I was in the sixth grade, I fell in love with the art of writing. I used to write “Choose Your Own Adventure” stories for fun and insist that my teacher read them (and I am sure they were probably not very well done or very interesting for that matter!!). For my 12th birthday, my parents bought me an electric typewriter to help me along with my writing efforts. Yes, I realize that is dating me somewhat – but this was well before the popularity of personal computers and word processing programs. I was in heaven but I am sure my parents regretted all the noise coming from my room each time inspiration hit and I began tapping away on the typewriter.
Fast forward many years, and with the suggestion from a former co-worker, I started this little blog with the goal of sharing my ideas and humble opinions. Never in a million years would I have thought that one single blog post of mine would catch the interest of an American publishing company – and that interest would turn me into a published author. At first, I thought I was being pranked. Other than this blog, I had zero experience with professional writing. So, when I opened the initial email from Ulysses Press asking me if I would be interested in writing a book about morning meetings, I was shocked. What did I know about writing? What makes me an “expert” on morning meetings? What makes my ideas fascinating enough for people to want to go out and buy a book I wrote? I had huge self doubt about so many things. I talked with my husband, who told me to do my due diligence. I researched the publishing house, asked around to see if the company was legit, and kept in constant contact with my soon-to-be editor. After having all my questions answered, and being 100% transparent about being a newbie in the author department, I jumped in and committed to the project of writing a book about morning meetings and closing circles. Ulysses Press and my editor guided and supported me through each and every step of the process and answered every single one of my questions – and they treated me with so much respect along the way. It was a truly wonderful experience!
