Gone are the days of busting my budget and my body to create the perfect Pinterest classroom. I decided to let go of the unrealistic expectations I had in order to create a visually “cute” class. After coming to my senses, I decided to go for a clean, simplified look where I decided to decorate smarter and not harder! The result looks a lot like my classroom from last year, which was coincidentally, my last blog posted here. Whoops!
I have always been a fan of polka dots so I kept them as my “theme” this year. They have become somewhat of my trademark the past few years!
Here’s what the room looked like right before the students arrived. Nothing too fancy but highly functional and ready to go!
I did make a few changes from last year. One of the biggest changes was making a point of having subject specific wall space. This year, I decided not to use my whiteboard as a typical whiteboard but to turn it into a sound wall. I have a SMART TV in my room and I use it so much more than I use the whiteboard.
I found this sound wall on Teachers Pay Teachers. It was made by First Grade Freckles. You can find it HERE. The alphabet underneath the whiteboard was made by me and you can find it HERE.
I am very proud of my math wall because I made it myself! The bulletin board will contain my math vocabulary that you can find HERE. While this vocabulary word wall can be used for any Grade 3 math curriculum, it was specifically designed to align with the Pearson Numbers math program that we use at my school. As we progress through our math curriculum, we will add new vocabulary cards. By the end of the school year, this wall will be full of all the math terms we learned this year.
I also made the number posters that are above the math wall and you can download them for FREE HERE.
The final area of my classroom is the calendar area. This is where we keep the date, our daily schedule, and important papers. The calendar is part of my Calendar Glam series on TpT. You can find all my Calendar Glam sets HERE.
So there you have it. I definitely will not win an award for best decorated but I am so happy with how subject focused everything in my classroom is this year. I can’t wait to see how the walls begin to fill up with all the wonderful learning we will be doing together!
Have a great day!
