Today was an AMAZING day!
Even though it is a Saturday, I had the most AWESOME teacher moment… the moment that as a 3rd grade teacher you dream about but don’t often get a chance to take advantage of.
Today, I got to see my contribution to the world of education through the eyes of former students and their parents. I was witness to incredible pride and joy as I watched some former students of mine graduate from high school.
This group of graduates is special to me because the year that I started teaching at Joliette Elementary School, this particular group was beginning Kindergarten. And although I did not have the opportunity to be their homeroom teacher when they were in Grade 3 because I was at home taking care of my newborn daughter, I did have the opportunity to teach them Math when they were in the 4th grade. Always known as a wonderful group to teach, I followed their progression through elementary school and always wondered about them when they moved on to high school.
These pictures only represent a small portion of the students I saw today – happily wearing their caps and gowns and smiling for pictures with family and loved ones. My heart melted when I saw them all for the first time in years – in my head they were all the same age and size as they were they “left” JES at the end of Grade 6. But here is the thing that is great about being part of the JES family. Our students leave to move onto high school but they are never forgotten. Our staff room conversations often turn to thoughts of former students and nostalgia makes us reflect upon the wonderful and silly times that we spent with them. We are always happy to hear about their progress and to see how they are making their ways into the world. To hear their plans for their futures, to see their smiling faces and bright eyes beaming with pride completely made my day!
And I love that I had a little role in their success today.
And that is awesome.
Thank you to Mrs. Beattie for allowing me to post this on her year of AWESOME linky party! Click on the image below to visit her wonderful blog!
