Hello once again and welcome to another Weekly Summer Link-Up! Here is this week’s topic:
There are a million and one items that I could include in this blog post. I could name my children, my home, my job, my family, my friends, my scrapbooks that I have made for my children, etc. but I decided to talk about a gift I received from my eldest daughter more than 15 years ago.
It is no secret that I am a coffee lover! I adore the smell of coffee first thing in the morning and I love the “jumpstart” it gives me! My family knows me best and this is why I have chosen the following item to talk about this week.
Here is a coffee mug my daughter gave me for my birthday when she was 6 years old.
This coffee cup is one of my most prized possessions for many reasons. First of all, my daughter had asked my mother, her Nanny, to take her to the Dollar Store so that she could get something for my birthday. She had a plan to surprise me with this for my birthday. How cute is that?
Secondly, my daughter used her own money to buy me this gift for my birthday. She wrapped it herself and was so proud to give it to me. So proud, in fact, that she gave it to me a few days before my actual birthday. She couldn’t wait for me to open it! I remember the smile on her face. I remember her helping me take off the wrapping paper. I remember the hug she gave me after I opened it.
Lastly, the message on the coffee cup is the CUTEST ever! What mother doesn’t want to read “My Mom is the best”, “I love Mom”, and “I love you, Mom” first thing in the morning?
This coffee mug was a fixture in my kitchen for awhile and then made it’s way to school with me for many years. As time passed and my daughter moved away to start her own life as an adult, I brought the mug back home. I was scared that with the hustle and bustle of life in my classroom that something might happen to it – either misplaced, broken, or heaven forbid, SOMEONE ELSE use it (lol) so I brought it back home in order to protect it. I do use it every now and again – like when my daughter comes home for a visit, but mostly, it is prominently displayed in my china cabinet in order to preserve it. My heart would break into a million pieces if anything were to happen to it.
Receiving this gift was one of those rare moments in life that I can remember everything surrounding that event with distinct clarity. I remember the sun shining that day, being in my mother’s living room, the outfit my daughter was wearing, the ponytail in her hair that day, and the feeling I had knowing that giving me this gift gave my daughter so much joy. Someone might look at this coffee cup as JUST a coffee mug, but for me, it represents so much more – and the memories I have because of that mug are priceless.
What are some of your items that mean the world to you? Link up below and tell the world about it!
