It’s time for the weekly summer link-up! I am so sorry for missing the reminder post this week… I have been super busy enjoying the summer! I am sure you understand!
This week’s post is all about my talents!
I consider myself a jack of some trades… meaning that I do a lot of things well but don’t necessarily excel at anything is particular. I’ve decided to share with you 2 of my passions which I do very well.
Talent #1.
Scrapbooking
When my eldest daughter was 12 years old, she became a super scrapbooker! She spent all of her free time designing pages with photos that I had taken. I never really was into scrapbooking until one winter day when school was cancelled because of a snowstorm. My daughter was bored and she begged me to do some scrapbooking pages with her to pass the time. Reluctantly, I did and that very first page was enough to get me hooked!!
I hate to admit it, but I haven’t scrapbooked that much since my youngest was born! I really do have to get back into it!
My second talent is one that I have been involved with since I was 3 years old. This particular talent has allowed me to travel, gain lifelong friends, and pass that love down to my daughter.
Talent #2.
Figure skating
My earliest talent was figure skating!
I was a competitive figure skater for 13 years. I loved the ice so much that my father used to make an outdoor rink for me so that I could go out and skate whenever I wasn’t skating in the arena or at school. Figure skating took up a major percentage of my life when I was growing up. Training 6 days a week, before and after school, moving away from home during the summers to train… I was a dedicated athlete.
When I decided at 16 to quit competing, my figure skating life did not finish. I became a coach and began working with younger skaters. I was also became the head coach of my provincial Special Olympics skating team and had the opportunity to attend the National Special Olympic Games with my athlete. After having my son, I joined a competitive adult synchro skating team that competed around Quebec. I volunteer for national figure skating events and have recently been named the president of the local figure skating club.
My son took skating lessons for 1 year to learn how to skate and now he is following in the steps of his father. He plays hockey now and wants to play for the Ottawa Senators when he grows up!
My daughter, on the other hand, is a dedicated little skater! She does a few competitions throughout the skating year but her main goal for taking lessons is to have fun and hang out with her skating friends. I love watching her skate – it always amazes me that she has the ability to go out onto that huge ice surface all by herself WITHOUT getting nervous! She has such a laid-back attitude about the whole thing… she never gets down if she falls or makes a mistake. In fact, she is the first one to laugh about it!
So there you have it… my talents!
What are yours?

Figure skating was always something I wanted to learn to do growing up. I can’t do much more than go around in circles, but I love watching it on TV!

Hi Carrie,
I have to say that I haven’t been skating that much lately. I broke my foot a few years ago – and was told by the doctors that it wasn’t broken. I kept running, skating, walking, etc. on it and seven months later I was still experiencing pain. I went back and had to have an MRI to pinpoint the problem – and it turns out that it was a hairline fracture – not the “typical” clean break. So after experiencing all that pain, I decided to leave the skating to Sophia! lol!
Thanks for coming by!

I love scrapbooking! It’s hard to find the time for it these days, but yours is inspiring me. Might need to make the trip to Michael’s for more supplies. 🙂

Caitlin,
I was just at Michael’s yesterday! What a great place to spend a couple of hours. I wasn’t looking for scrapbooking stuff – but for decorations for my husband’s 40th birthday party… which then turned into decorations for my daughter’s bedroom makeover… which turned into cake making ideas… which turned into…. I am sure you get the picture! lol!
Thanks for coming by!
