My son and I have stumbled across a really fun, challenging, and slightly competitive game to help us work on his basic math facts and… his math fact homework. You see, traditional studying techniques such as memorization and worksheets do not work for him and it usually ends in frustration for the both of us whenever we have to work on them.
So, one night, in a last ditch effort to remain calm, I drew a Tic Tac Toe board on a piece of recycled paper and placed different multiplication answers in the spaces. I had my son give me the “equations” to the “answers” that I had written in the spaces. Et voila! My son was more interested in winning the game and didn’t realize all the multiplication facts he was working on.
This has been our new way to study not only multiplication facts but ALL his basic facts! Basic facts homework is no longer a chore for my son and we have a ton of fun playing together.
I decided to make up some easy to prepare Tic Tac Toe units so that I not longer have to think on my feet when I am studying with my son. They are also super useful in my classroom for practice, re-inforcement, and they come in handy for earlier finishers.
Here is a sample of what the pages look like in the individual units. All you have to do is print, laminate, cut, and provide some sort of bingo chips are dry erase markers to play the game.
Each unit has 2 ways to play the game. There are sheets where players must give the answer to the equations and there are also sheets where the answers are provided and players must give the equations. There are also bonus sheets provided for doubles and mixed practice.
You can find all the individual Tic Tac Toe units here…
