This blog post is all about being positive and making it stick!
In fact, it is all about Positive Sticky Notes.
The idea behind this came from an incredibly sensitive and socially aware young woman.
A few years ago, I read an article about a young Canadian student from Alberta who was being bullied by classmates at her high school. Instead of reacting in a negative way, Caitlin Prater-Haacke responded by spreading positivity throughout the halls of her high school. Her Positive Post-It campaign and story went national when she was reprimanded by the school administration for littering.
See the CBC National report about Caitlin and her story below.
Watching this report got me thinking and changed my perspective on positive reinforcement in the classroom. I realized that I had to make a change… to implement more than just verbal positive reinforcement with my students. I had to make it concrete – not only for the benefit of my students, but for their parents as well.
I came up with the idea to make my own positive post-its to use in my classroom. With minimal preparation, I could provide colourful and cute meaningful messages in a matter of seconds – that could be placed in books, in student agendas, on desks, and anywhere else! I could post them as surprises or as motivators. Easy peasy mac and cheesy!
So, here is a quick peek at what my Positive Sticky Notes are all about!
There really is nothing to it and the impact of your little note goes a L-O-N-G way!
