My students and I have come to THAT point in our year where we are learning the multiplication tables. I make it a point to show many different strategies to my students because I know that not every child learns in the same manner or at the same pace. So, my students know how to skip count, draw arrays, use manipulatives, and some have even resorted to the “dreaded” memorization method in order to commit the facts to memory.
Then one day, I came across a YouTube Video from a teacher named Mr. DeMaio. This teacher has found the magic recipe to get kids to memorize their multiplication facts. Through his series of videos, he gets children to sing parodies of catchy pop songs in order to learn their basic multiplication facts. Trust me, these tunes will stick in your head forever!
I have decided to compile all the great videos Mr. DeMaio has made so that more and more teachers can discover them and that are and more children can have fun while learning their times tables.
2x – Parody of Rude by MAGIC!
x3 – Parody of Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars
x4 – Parody of Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke
x5 – Parody of We Can’t Stop by Miley Cyrus
x6 – Parody of Cheerleader by OMI (and my personal favourite!!)
x7 – Parody of Cups by Anna Kendrick
x8 – Parody of All About That Bass by Meghan Trainer
And I am impatiently waiting for the parody for the 9’s! Once it is released I will most certainly upload it here!
Aren’t these amazing? Just watch! You’ll catch yourself singing the multiplication tables all day every day!
Have a great day!
