Call it Open House Night… call it Meet the Teacher Night… call it what you like… but whatever you call it, this night is an important one when it comes to getting your school year started off on the right foot.
There are always some elements of Open House Night that always remain the same. You have to provide information about yourself, your classroom routines, and curriculum expectations. But there are other things you can do to make you and your personality stand out. It’s the little touches that you add to your Open House Night that sets the tone for how the parents see you and how they will be thinking of you when they head home to their families after meeting you.
One thing you can do to add some pizazz to your Open House Night is to provide parents with a framed photo of their children. I have been doing this for the past few years and each year I know how appreciative my parents are by the ooh’s and ahh’s they say upon entering my classroom for the first time.
On the very first day of school, I take portraits of all my students holding a special “I’m a 3rd Grader” sign. I pick out some wrapping paper from Wal-Mart to make a cute little background, and start snapping pictures of my students. Here are some examples from my students this year…
After taking the photos, I sent them for developing (all 4×6) and then picked up some picture frames from my local Dollarama store. I made sure to develop extra pictures and bought extra picture frames for my students who share their time between both parents. After arranging all the picture frames on the desks, my class was ready for Open House Night!
