For years in my Language Arts classes, I have been using a daily routine of reviewing and working with high frequency sight words. Educators know that mastery of these words, whether you use the Dolch list or the Fry list, is one of the major stepping stones to fluent reading. So one day, while discussing my students’ math progress with our Tailored Learning Specialist, and discussing how my students are stumbling over important math words when reading in their math texts and workbooks, we came upon an interesting thought. Wouldn’t it be great to have high frequency math words that could be practiced on a daily basis, both in school and at home, to help students recognize math vocabulary that they see every day in their math classes?
Because of that one little conversation, the idea for High Frequency Math Words was born.
The first four sets in the series are complete and available in the I Heart Grade 3 TpT store.
Each set is arranged in the same way. Depending on which one you are using, you will have between two and seven weeks worth of high frequency math words specifically chosen for the concept you are targeting. Take a peek at the examples from the Fractions unit, which you can download for FREE right here.
Everyone knows the importance of sight words in Language Arts but the importance of high frequency math words is just as important in mathematics. These products contain activities that will help your students learn how to recognize and recall important high frequency math words. With daily in-class and at-home practice, students will be reading their math word problems and situational problems at a faster rate with improved independence.
This program was designed to take up minimal class time. These activities should only take about 5 minutes per day to complete. They are also easy to prepare for homework packages.
Make sure to grab the Fraction Freebie and try them out for yourself!
Have a great day!
