It’s June! It’s time to celebrate all wonderful Daddies of the world!
With Father’s Day just around the corner, I have decided to write a companion post to the 5 Must Read Books for Mommies that I did for Mother’s Day. Many people underestimate the sheer power that father’s have when they read to their children – particularly boys. I have come up with a list of 5 Must Read Books for Daddies that they can read to their loved ones… and when the time comes, their love ones can read to them!
Each year, my children give their Daddy a book for Father’s Day. These are some of my favourites that my husband has received over the years. Books truly are the gift that keeps on giving – even years later, I can’t help but smile when one of my little ones brings one of these books to their Daddy to read! It warms my heart each time!
In no particular order, here are my 5 Must Reads for Daddies!
1. Oh, Daddy!
Bob Shea
This is one of the cutest, silliest, funniest books I have seen about the child/daddy relationship! Oh, Daddy! follows a father and son as they go about their daily routines – but Daddy tends to turn things such as eating carrots and washing the car into silly, touching, little moments. The repetitive nature of this story is the perfect way to encourage both Daddy and child to read the story no matter what reading level your child is at! Get ready for tons of smiles and laughter with this one!
2. My Daddy and Me
Tina Macnaughton
This little book is such a wonderful homage to Daddies everywhere! My Daddy and Me is told from the child’s point of view and will make your heart sing at the wonderful message behind the text and illustrations. Not only will your little ones want to read and re-read this story, Dad will, too!
3. Why I Love My Daddy
Daniel Howarth
This book is another great homage to Dad’s everywhere. Each page of Why I Love My Daddy begins the same way as the book up above which makes it another great read to me/ read with me book. The illustrations are captivating, the text is heartwarming, and this book makes the perfect gift as there is a dedication page at the beginning and a page at the back which allows you to include your child into the story with a picture of him/her and Daddy!
4. You
Stephen Michael King
This book is an amazingly simple and effective way to learn about love and friendship. Daddies and children alike will love to snuggle up and read this together. You will make anyone who reads it feel loved and special – just like they should be!
5. How to Surprise a Dad
Jean Reagan
This cute little book is a touching story of a brother and sister duo who come up with a guide for devising surprise plans for their dad. These plans consist of random acts of kindness and gifts for the special Dad days of the year – Father’s Day included. Be careful, reading this story might inspire your children to devise some secretive plans of their own!
I am not affiliated with any publishing house or author and have blogged about these books simply because I love them – and I think you will, too! May they bring you as much joy and happiness and they have to me and my children!
Happy reading!
